Tommy LiPuma’s Big Birthday Bash to kick off Cleveland’s 37th Tri-C Jazz Fest, June 23


Jazz producer Tommy LiPuma will celebrate his upcoming 80th birthday with a special concert in his hometown of Cleveland, Ohio at the Connor Place at Playhouse Square on June 23.

 

The concert, titled “Tommy LiPuma Big Birthday Bash,” will feature performances by Diana Krall, Al Jarreau, Dr. John, Leon Russell and The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, all artists he has produced over the course of his 50-year career. The show will also kick off Cleveland’s 37th annual Tri-C Jazz Fest. The line-up features will also feature such artists as Leon Russell and Chick Corea and will run through to June 25.

 

Former Verve label-head and president of The GRP Recording Co. Li Puma, who will officially celebrate his 80th birthday on July 5, has most recently produced Short Stories, the forthcoming album by trumpeter Dominick Farinacci. Farinacci first met LiPuma at the age of 16, when he was a participant in the Tri-C Jazz Studies program. Short Stories will be released on Mack Avenue Records on June 10.
