The second annual Beacon Jazz Festival, which was created as a celebration of jazz alongside the distilleries, craft vendors, culture and natural splendor of Hudson Valley, will be taking place on June 25 from 2-7 p.m. at the Peter and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park in Beacon, New York.
For the second year in a row, the festival will be headlined by the Sun Ra Arkestra, who will bring their cosmic jazz to the stage under the direction of 91-year-old alto saxophonist Marshall Allen. In addition to the Sun Ra Arkestra, the line-up will feature four other jazz ensembles; the New Standard Trio, Willie Martinez and La Familia Sextet, Judi Silvano’s Zephyr Quintet and Joe McPhee Quintet.
This year, on June 24 from 7-10 p.m., the evening before the festival, there will also be a special celebration at Seeger Riverfront Park featuring the Hudson Valley DJ Bill Skillz from the Diggin’ in the Crates radio show of Vassar College’s WVKR-FM.
