Vocalists Joanie Pallatto and April Aloisio celebrate their decades-long friendship and collaboration on a new collection of duet recordings, including an interpretation of the classic rock song, “I Feel Free.”
Joanie Pallatto is a versatile singer, songwriter, and producer known for her unique sound and eclectic musical style that traverses multiple genres, reflecting her expansive artistic vision and creativity. Equally respected in the jazz realm is April Aloisio, a vocalist renowned for her smooth, sensual voice and a repertoire that effortlessly merges jazz, Brazilian music, and contemporary influences. Over decades, they have built a deep friendship and creative partnership, culminating in a rich body of collaborative work. Their latest release, April & Joanie Sing!, is a 14-track compilation of duet recordings from 1986 to 2024. Set to be released on September 6 via Southport Records, the album offers a curated selection that showcases the breadth of their musical influences and artistic journey, featuring contributions from notable guests.
The tracks display various styles, offering fresh interpretations of works by composers like George Gershwin and Hermeto Pascoal, alongside original jazz pieces. The album’s diversity is further highlighted by two newly recorded tracks, including a vibrant new version of the classic rock song “I Feel Free,” originally written by Peter Brown and Jack Bruce, which you can hear via the player below. This reinterpretation, the opening track on April & Joanie Sing!, features Pallatto and Aloisio alongside Fareed Haque, who brings a dynamic acoustic guitar performance. Their voices blend seamlessly, creating layered, choral harmonies intertwining and ascending to amplify the feeling of freedom conveyed by the lyrics and showcase their artistic synergy.
