SFJAZZ to release Michael Jackson tribute on March 4

The SFJAZZ Collective will be releasing a new, limited-edition album titled Music of Michael Jackson and New Compositions-Live at SFJAZZ Center on March 4.

 

The two-disc live CD documents a recording at San Francisco’s SFJAZZ Center which took place on October 25,2015. It will feature new arrangements of Michael Jackson classics, such as “Thriller,” “Smooth Criminal” and “Human Nature” as well as lesser known gems from his discography, such as “The Love You Save” and “This Place Hotel”. In addition, the album will feature eight new compositions by the band, and will be accompanied by a 22-page booklet containing photos, interviews and commentary from the band.

 

The line-up for this edition of SFJAZZ collective is alto saxophonist Miguel Zenón, tenor saxophonist David Sánchez, trumpeter Sean Jones, trombonist Robin Eubanks, vibraphonist Edward Simon, pianist Matt Penmand and drummer Obed Calvaire.

 

Music of Michael Jackson and New Compositions-Live at SFJAZZ Center is the latest in the series of live performance recordings of the SFJAZZ collective that is released each season and highlights the band’s original compositions along with works of modern composers. Previously, the Collective paid tribute to artists from Ornette Coleman to Stevie Wonder. These CD sets are only available from SFJAZZ.
