Quincy Jones will receive this year’s PPL Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the 2016 Jazz FM Awards, which will take place at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London on April 26.
Jones will be acknowledged for his prolific impact upon the music industry throughout a career spanning over six decades as producer, conductor, composer and multi-instrumentalist. As a producer, he collaborated with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson and many others.
To this day, he continues to mentor the next generation of artists. One of his latest protégés, multi-instrumentalist Jacob Colliers, is among this year’s Jazz FM Awards nominees in the Breakthrough Act of the Year category.
Colliers said “Quincy has taught me many things. The importance of simplicity, the philosophy of framing a song as opposed to concealing it, the essentiality of knowing one’s history and that of the cultures of the world, the necessity to leave your ego at the door, allowing space for God to walk into the room, the importance of listening twice as much as you speak, and the balance of science and soul, to name but a few.”
