The great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart has emerged as 2016’s biggest-selling CD act.
A massive box-set of recordings of his compositions, Mozart 225: The New Complete Edition, was released on October 28. It was produced by Decca and Deutsche Grammophon in collaboration with the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation.
Mozart 225 is a massive collection, which presents, in 200 CDs, every known work composed by the classical genius. It is the final result of 18 months of labor, which features 600 world-class soloists and 60 orchestras, and runs for a total of 240 hours.
Universal Music Group has announced that since its October release, about 1.25 million CDs have been sold – and that the numbers keep going up.
The release of Mozart 225: The New Complete Collection co-incides with the 225th anniversary of the composers’ death (December 5, 1791).
