David Barber is a multi faceted vocalist, instrumentalist, composer, and poet based in Portland Oregon. This album focuses on his work as a hip hop vocalist. As a rapper, David’s phrasing, expressionism, theatrics, and ability to interact musically with an ensemble have lead him to be highly regarded in the Portland jazz scene.
David’s musical journey has been fueled by an utterly unique blend of influences ranging from soundscapes in the vein of Ornette Coleman, Erykah Badu, Ambrose Akinmusire, Common, and countless more.
“The first time I heard you rap, I literally cried.” – Luis Ocasio, KMHD Portland Jazz Radio
