The first of a 2-volume set, “Interpretations, Vol. 1” is a collection of Tobin Mueller’ best interpretive piano covers, remixed and remastered. Mueller’s effortless virtuosity shines through each recording. But what places this collection above others is his imaginative arrangements, his sometimes subtle, sometimes audacious way of transforming well-known masterpieces into fresh, contemporary expressions. He balances respectful reverence with ingenious whimsy, crafted balance with joyous improvisation, creating tributes that turn each iconic piece into a reimagined fantasy. Volume 1 highlights works by composers throughout the ages, from J. S. Bach, Frédéric Chopin and Claude Debussy to Dave Brubeck, Hoagy Carmichael and Bart Howard, showing the connections and shared inspirations that have been passed down from era to era.
Mueller has recorded with Grammy winners Dave Brubeck, Michael Hedges, Donny McCaslin, Maynard Ferguson, guitarist Bob Lanzetti (founding member of Snarky Puppy), cellist Noah Hoffeld (Grammy-winner with Brad Mehldau), Jon Anderson (from Yes), Brian Welch (“Head” from Korn), Carl Fischer, Sal Giorgianni, and bass legend Ron Carter, as well as Grammy nominees Dane Richeson (Blue Note Records), Ken Schaphorst (founding member of Boston-based Jazz Composers Alliance), Scott Rockenfield (Queensrÿche). He has collaborated with Blues Hall of Fame guitarist and Grammy winner Paul Nelson on two albums, Prestidigitation and Standard Deviations.
