“La La Land” equals Oscars record

The 2017 Oscar nominations were announced on January 24. La La Land received the most nominations, fourteen, tying the record previously set by All About Eve (1950) and Titanic (1997). The former film went on to win six Oscars, while the latter took eleven.

La La Land, the new film by Damien Chazelle, is a musical that tells the story of the romance between a jazz pianist, played by Ryan Gosling, and a hopeful actress, played by Emma Stone.

On January 8, it was awarded seven Golden Globes, including ones for Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture, Best Soundtrack and Best Song (for “City of Stars”).

Chazelle previously directed Whiplash (2014), the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning drama about a young jazz drummer struggling to rise to the top ranks of a cut-throat East Coast music conservatory.
