Darren Pickering | The JAZZIZ Podcast

Welcome to the JAZZIZ Podcast. This is our new series of podcast conversations, hosted by JAZZIZ Online Editor Matt Micucci and featuring some of the best artists of today’s jazz and creative music scene. Many of these artists are part of JAZZIZ Vinyl Club, our series of limited-edition color vinyl albums curated by the JAZZIZ Editors, featuring some of the most exciting jazz artists from yesterday and today that we cover in the print version of JAZZIZ, our website and these podcasts.

Joining us today on the JAZZIZ Podcast, all the way from New Zealand, is pianist and composer Darren Pickering, to talk about his recently-released Volume Two of his Small Worlds project. The album is described as a continuation of his investigation of the intersection between cinematic aesthetics and electronic textures within the framework of contemporary jazz. In this podcast, we not only talk about the genesis of Pickering’s Small Worlds project but also delve into his artistic evolution, tracing his early days as a self-proclaimed synthesizer enthusiast to a proponent of jazz and creative music that you need to know about.
