Columbia/Legacy celebrates Miles Davis with two new releases

Columbia/Legacy will be releasing two Miles Davis related albums helmed by pianist and producer Robert Glasper. The release of this album marks both the release of Don Cheadle’s film Miles Ahead and the 90th birthday anniversary of Davis, which falls on May 26.

The first album is Miles Ahead – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, the music to Don Cheadle’s directorial debut. The CD will feature 11 tracks by Davis recorded during the period of time between 1956 and 1981. The tracklist also includes select dialogue taken directly from the film and five original compositions written for the film by Glasper.

Miles Ahead – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available from April 1, and is available now for digital pre-orders on iTunes.

The second album, titled Everything’s Beautiful, is composed of Glasper’s own reinterpretations of Davis’ music. It features cameo appearances from such artists as Erykah Badu, John Scofield and Stevie Wonder. Glasper said, “The whole project is based on Miles, but it’s based on Miles’ vision, it’s based on Miles’ voice, it’s based on Miles’ compositions, it’s based on Miles’ influence, it’s based on Miles’ swag.”

Everything’s Beautiful will be available from May 27 and is available now for digital pre-orders on iTunes.
