Antonio Sánchez to perform European premiere of “Birdman Live” in Turin, Italy

Drummer Antonio Sánchez will be performing the European premiere of the show “Birdman Live” in Italy at this year’s Torino Jazz Festival.

The show will take place at Turin’s Cinema Massimo on April 30, UNESCO International Jazz Day, and will see Sánchez play live during a screening of Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman. Sánchez composed the original score for the film and won an Academy Award for it in 2015.

“Birdman Live” is the culmination of this year’s collaboration between the Torino Jazz Festival and the Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino. The collaboration saw a series of screenings in which drums are featured as central elements, both in music and narrative. Some of the titles screened were Otto Preminger’s The Man with the Golden Arm, starring Frank Sinatra, and Damien Chazelle’s Whiplash. This film retrospective runs from April 23-30.
