This year, vocalist Denise Donatelli was nominated for her third consecutive Grammy in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category for her latest recording, Find a Heart. Shifting with ease from jazz to adult contemporary, her last two albums, 2010’s When the Lights are Low and 2012’s Soul Shadow, also received three Grammy nominations.
One of the tracks featured on Find a Heart is “Big Noise, New York.” The song provides the title to Donatelli’s New York tour that is to take place at five different jazz venues from February 9-13.
On February 9, she will be playing two sets, one at 7:30 p.m. and the other at 9:30 p.m., at the Cafe Bonafide. On the 10th, she will be at Mezzrow, with two sets, the first at 8 p.m. and the second at 9:30 p.m. On the 11th, she will be performing at The Metropolitan Room at 9:30 p.m. On the 12th, she will be at Minton’s, doing a special pre-Valentine’s Day show at 11 p.m. The New York City tour will conclude at Django at the Roxy Hotel, with a performance at 8 p.m.
Donatelli will be performing with her band, which features pianist Laurence Hobgood, guitarist Lage Lund, bassist Ed Howard and drummer Jon Wikan.
Donatelli aligned with the American Heart Association (AHA) to bring awareness to their cause and mission of building healthier lives, free of heart disease and stroke. She has been donating a portion of proceeds from Find a Heart to the association. Denise Donatelli’s decision to become a spokesperson for the American Heart Association stemmed from the tragedy of her son’s passing due in part to heart disease. She previously stated: “It is my hope to help raise awareness through my personal experience, to support the efforts of the American Heart Association in any way I can be of benefit, and to pay heartfelt tribute to the memory of my beloved son.”
